Maplewood theater Reading "Maplewood sorting out City Hall financial mess" (March 26), I had to double-check that I was reading a news story and not a theater review. Here we have the mayor, who after finding out that "gee, the people who work here are 'insiders,' " is so desperate to find an "outsider" that she recruits a man with little or no relevant experience and undetermined academic credentials. Turns out the recruit is a former associate of the mayor's spouse, a well-known basher of many local officials. Boy, who would have thought anything might go wrong here? Probably everyone except the mayor. Oh, wait, the mayor and a council member who deemed it appropriate to leave his city job just long enough to vote on a policy affecting that job; a council member who also reveals his research into hiring the mayor's recruit maxed out at, "I thought, you know, what the hell harm can he do?" Truthfully, I knew it wasn't a review. Who could make this stuff up? Tom Baldwin, Falcon Heights
