Pioneer Press: 11/13/2007 11:33:41 PM: Frederick Melo: Eagan / City asks charter group to disbandLetter cites voters' second 'no'; commission plans to meet today to decide its future

After its charter proposal suffered a drubbing in last week's election, will the Eagan Charter Commission disband? Not if some members have their way.
The Eagan City Council made its long-standing feud with the 13-member Charter Commission overt and official Monday, asking in formal terms for the commission to go away.

"The people have twice said they are not interested in changing the form of Eagan's City government," Mayor Mike Maguire wrote in a pagelong letter to Commission Chair Eric Hedtke.

Maguire said strong voter turnout at two elections - the one last week and a previous one in 2004 - delivered an unmistakable defeat to the commission's attempts to make Eagan a charter city.
