Stand up! Be counted

Some of us are old enough to remember when phone answering machines were a not entirely trusted newfangled way of doing things. People put long, involved messages on the outgoing tape that explained what was happening and how to leave a message, usually including '...after the beep'.

Once they became more common, a friend of mine cut through all of that with a simple outgoing message:

'you know what to do, so do it.'
