Human rights

At the April 27, 2009 City Council meeting Maplewood resident, Maplewood Voices contributor, and city council candidate Jim Llanas introduced his initiative to reestablish the Maplewood Human Rights Commission.

Two resources key to this discussion are the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, and the League of Minnesota Human Rights Commissions.

In an age when the national media and local press give space to torture apologists working desperately to justify their villainy, I think it is fitting to focus as much attention as we can on local efforts to promote and secure human rights and social justice.
