What we see depends mainly on what we look for. Sir John Lubbock

As free citizens in a political democracy, we have a responsibility to be interested and involved in the affairs of the human community, be it at the local or the global level. Paul Wellstone

While some people were doing this

councilpersons Nephew (notes), Rossbach (notes), Juenemann, and Longrie were at the League of Minnesota Cities annual conference in Rochester.

Meanwhile, Ms. Guilfoile has been getting ready for the Taste of Maplewood (pdf), and other fried stuff delicacies:

Maplewood's Guilfoile is a devout Taste of Minnesota follower — she and her husband go at least twice each year. She's not turning her back on the original Minnesota food festival, she's just taking cues. The Maplewood event is intended to showcase what Maplewood has to offer and to bring people together in a positive way.

Though she does lament the lack of local restaurants at the bigger Taste, she remains loyal.

"It's definitely changed over the years. I can remember when there were vendors from — I hate to call 'em hole in the walls — but small establishments trying to make a name for themselves," she said. "But there's still something about the idea of Taste, and we go anyway and eat cheese curds."
