Ambulance fees will increase in Maplewood
... The rates for Maplewood, which runs its own ambulance service, appear to be considerably higher than in surrounding communities, city officials said. The Maplewood City Council approved the fee increase in November, attributing it to low Medicare reimbursements for ambulance services and expenses added to the fund that finances the city-run service. "It's supposed to pay its own way," said city Finance Director Bob Mittet. "Unlike other cities, it's not paid for by a combination of fees and general-fund revenues." But City Council Member Will Rossbach said the price increases have gone too far. It's time for the city to consider contributing to the ambulance fund, said Rossbach, who plans to propose that. ...
