Maplewood's public works director may end up as acting city manager

The first choice of the Maplewood City Council for acting city manager likely will be able to take on the role, city officials said today. On Monday, the council suspended then City Manager Greg Copeland and sought to make Public Works Director Chuck Ahl as the interim replacement. But Ahl's union membership - at a time when the city is negotiating with several unions including his - raised questions.
