City Council members are asking each of the city's eight department managers to find enough savings to keep the city under budget and preserve the jobs of three staff members - two city planners and a business-license specialist. Visibly fatigued council members voted 5-0 shortly before midnight Monday on the proposal after hours of discussion. Making the necessary cuts should be no problem, said City Manager Greg Copeland.
